Accounting and Finance: Payroll

Job Summary:
The Payroll Coordinator performs a wide variety of tasks by utilizing the organization’s systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll for all full-time, part-time, and seasonal Royals employees (at most this headcount is 1,500 associates but flexes with the demands of the season). This person will be focused on all company payroll operations including computing wage and overtime payments, calculating, and recording payroll deductions, and processing terminations as well as ensuring all confidential employee records and data are maintained.

  • Administer multi-state payroll activities in accordance with Company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
  • Calculate and process all payroll adjustments, deductions, and earnings
  • Maintain timesheets including checking and auditing records for compliance with established standards as well as timekeeping system changes/updates
  • Review and verify source documents for all new hires, personnel changes, and terminations
  • Review employee-initiated changes completed through employee self-service as needed
  • Process Minor League roster changes impacting gross pay, deductions, taxes, and net pay
  • Understand a variety of garnishments in order to process in accordance with regulation to ensure proper amounts are withheld and remitted to the proper authority
  • Compile, generate, audit, and/or analyze payroll data and reports to detect payroll discrepancies including balance file totals
  • Monitor and stay apprised of current laws governing payroll, minimum wage, and overtime
  • Apply benefit time policies established by Human Resources and/or union contracts to ensure accurate PTO balances and consistent application of company-paid holidays
  • Document and maintain detailed procedures for regular and periodic tasks
  • Respond to payroll-related questions timely
  • Assist Director – Payroll in completing payroll reporting requirements
  • Assist with Year-End processing 
  • Serve as backup support to the Director-Payroll for completing the 40-Man Major League Roster payroll
  • Support continued process improvement including the adoption of best practices
  • Participate in and complete other Payroll projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications/Education Required:
  • Degree in a related field such as Human resources, Business or Accounting
  • 3 years of payroll processing experience in a multiple jurisdiction environment
  • Working knowledge of Payroll practices, labor, and tax laws
  • Systems experience with ADP or other recognized payroll partner for 500 – 1,500 employees
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office specifically Excel and Word
  • Able and willing to work non-traditional hours including evenings and weekends as needed
