Internship: Internship
Overview: The SWB RailRiders community relations intern is responsible for providing assistance to the Director of Community Relations with all planning, coordination, and execution of community programs and events. The RailRiders Community Relations Department focuses on all community outreach and initiatives - connecting the team to our local community and developing strong relationships with schools, non-profits, and other stakeholders. Students interested in PR, marketing, communication, special events, sports management, or non-profit management are highly encouraged to apply.

Compensation: Paid ($8.00/hour on Game Days) and available for college credit. *Student must be receiving college credit to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities
Including, but not limited to:
  • Answer and fulfill donation, mascot appearance, and player appearance requests.
  • Assist in the execution of the RailRiders school program, including occasional school visits. 
  • Assist in execution of theme nights, awareness nights, mascot related events (CHAMP’s Birthday) and community initiatives during RailRiders’ home games including MiLB Charity Initiatives (Copa de la Diversion, The Nine, Joe Torre Safe At Home Domestic Violence Awareness Night, etc.)
  • Assist in and planning an execution of all community centered special events and charity walks held at PNC Field on Saturday’s throughout the year.
  • Schedule requests for player/mascot community appearances.  May include escorting player or mascot to different events around Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Carryout game-day on-field and in-game Community Relations responsibilities.
  • Work together with the Marketing Department to execute social media posts and campaigns related to community relations activities. 
  • Assist in scheduling and coordination of participants in the RailRiders’ Military Appreciation Program, Community Organization of the Game program and National Anthem program, and Sheetz Seatz program.
  • Assist in coordinating and scheduling families to use our Curemark Sensory Safe Suite - including assisting in the care and upkeep of the suite before each game-day. 
  • Manage and organize materials related to in-game and online jersey and merchandise auctions.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Community Relations.

  • Must be willing to work long hours including holidays, weekends and weeknights.
  • Will need to attend at least half of all RailRiders home games (especially key events such as HOPE Week and other community initiative games).
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have a reliable car and valid driver’s license.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required. 
DURATION: March/April 2022 - September 2022 (flexible)
