The Houston Astros are seeking a technical analyst to join the business applications group.  The analyst will work closely with business stakeholders and other members of the IT team to support, design, and implement solutions that further the capabilities of the organization.

The ideal candidate will be highly analytical with demonstrated hands-on experience supporting and managing third party applications both with and without vendor support.  They will exhibit curiosity and the desire to fully understand the challenges of their business stakeholders and will be driven to deliver functional, cost-effective, timely, and complete solutions.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for retail, concessions, collaboration, and other business functions
  • Take part in a broad portfolio of technology projects across all business areas
  • Participate in the ideation, investigation, implementation, and optimization of systems and applications
  • Adhere to and promote application lifecycle management principles for their areas of support
  • Work closely with stakeholders in the business to execute on identified opportunities
  • Solicit, extract, and understand requirements from business stakeholders
  • Effectively utilize third party vendors and suppliers as needed
  • Triage incidents, determining root causes, and execute on plans to eliminate future issues
 

Education and/or Experience:
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent experience
  • 0-2 years of experience in application support
  • Demonstrated capability managing custom and third-party applications
  • Experience optimizing application performance in Windows environments
  • Experiencing writing SQL and supporting SQL Server and Oracle databases
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal, formal and informal) and proven track record in collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
 Preferred

  • Experience with low-code solutions (e.g., Microsoft PowerApps)
  • Experience with ETL solutions (e.g., Informatica, Boomi, SSIS)
  • Experience with visualization toolsets (e.g., PowerBI, Spotfire, Tableau)
  • Experience working within formal project management environments
 

Work Environment
This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
