Coordinator, Baseball Operations and Bilingual Media
Department:  Baseball Operations

Status:   Full-Time/ Exempt

The Houston Astros are seeking a driven individual to serve as the team’s Spanish language translator while also supporting the department’s business and baseball goals and objectives.  The primary focus of this position is to serve as the main point of contact in assisting players with the logistics of their employment as a Major League Baseball player (not to include contract interpretation), while assisting the Major League support staff (Team Operations, Video Operations, Advance Scouting, Player Evaluation and Coaching Staff) with day-to-day responsibilities. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Fluent in Spanish, with excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Provide Spanish translation for all scheduled pre- and post-game player media interviews including Spring Training workouts and games, home and road games and during postseason play.
  • Attend and serve as the Spanish translator at any Club-related events to be covered by local or national media at which Major League players are present.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including; long hours, nights, holidays and weekends; additionally, able to travel both domestically and internationally when necessary.
  • Support Team Operations, Video Operations, Advance Scouting, Player Evaluation and Major League staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience and Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and related work experience.
  • Strong familiarity understanding the different variations of cultural context and nuances among the Spanish speaking countries.
  • 2-3 years working in minor or major league baseball.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to handle confidential matters with sensitivity and discretion.
  • Inclusive, team player with proven success collaborating in a team environment both internally and externally.
  • Expert knowledge of baseball (rules and culture) and related statistics.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail and demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in basic computer software programs.
