The Houston Astros are currently seeking a Bullpen Catcher & Coaching Apprentice in the Player Development Department. Serving as an assistant to the coaches on staff throughout the day while having a large responsibility of catching bullpens and being the bullpen catcher during the games.  This person will aid in the implementation of player development initiatives while also assisting with on-field development.  This position could lead to a variety of different positions within the organization in the future.


Essential Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Catch bullpens, throw batting practice, hit fungoes
  • Collaborate with field staff, coordinators, and front office to implement and help improve player development initiatives.
  • Assist the coaching staff in their responsibilities
  • Assist hitting coach with cage work
  • Assist with the evaluation and coaching of fundamentals.
  • Assist the staff and players with the implementation of systems and technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications:
  • Interest in on-field coaching.
  • Must be able to catch bullpens of high-level pitchers.
  • Must be able to throw batting practice and hit fungoes.
  • Ability to understand and advocate for changes due to new information and or tools in baseball.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with people in a wide variety of roles including players, coaches and front office.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Professional or collegiate playing experience is a plus.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Strength & Conditioning education and experience is a plus.

Work Environment
This job operates both outside in a baseball field and office setting. This role will involve being in the heat and on the individual’s feet for long periods of time. At times the noise could become excessive. 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role routinely will be in an inside or outside type of environment for long periods of time, of which includes bending, throwing, and swinging a bat.  This role will require the individual to be physically moving for long periods of time. This role will require the individual to lift and carry up to 25 pounds throughout the day. The individual must be able to visual acuity to distinguish pitches and facilitate instruction.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.



Will be stationed at one of the full-season affiliates or training complex in West Palm Beach, FL.
