Led by Chuck Greenberg, one of the sports industry's most well-respected owners and operators, Greenberg Sports Group manages the operations of three highly successful and award-winning franchises within Major League Baseball’s player development system. Those franchises are the Frisco (Tx.) RoughRiders (Double-A Central – Texas Rangers), Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Pelicans (Low-A East – Chicago Cubs) and State College (Pa.) Spikes (MLB Draft League).

Greenberg is the former Managing Partner & CEO of the Texas Rangers, a role he assumed in 2010 after his group of investors (Rangers Baseball Express, LLC), which included Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, acquired the Major League Baseball franchise from Tom Hicks and Hicks Sports Group.

Chuck's prior accomplishments are highlighted by serving as Chairman and Managing Partner of the Double-A Eastern League's Altoona (Pa.) Curve from 2002 to 2008 and representing Mario Lemieux and renowned businessman Ron Burkle in landing ownership of the bankrupt Pittsburgh Penguins in 1999. He again represented the Penguins in 2007 on successful negotiations to build the state-of-the-art Consol Energy Center in downtown Pittsburgh and secure the franchise's future in the city for at least another 30 years.

Position Description
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are hiring a Fan Engagement Assistant, a seasonal position to assist in the fan engagement department. This person will work directly under the Director of Fan Engagement to help enhance the fan experience at TicketReturn.com Field.
 
Responsibilities
  • Help promote the Pelicans at events throughout the Grand  Strand  Community and those visiting the area. This includes attending events on nights and weekends.
  • Work non-traditional revenue events being held at the ballpark such as concerts, trade shows, etc. 
  • Prepare and execute game day events such as giveaways, promotional theme nights, and on-field entertainment.
  • Coordinate and execute pre-game activities and entertainment.
  • Perform as mascots when necessary.
  • Track social media metrics for specific campaign and end of season reporting.
  • Develop unique ways to engage and grow the Pelicans fan base while enhancing overall fan experience through social media, in-game promotions, and other events.
  • Be available to field front desk phone calls & answer inbound fan messages on various social media channels.
  • Interview, hire, and manage a game day promotional team
  • Coordinate mascot appearances at both for-profit and non-profit events throughout the surrounding communities and within the ballpark
  • Help organize and plan special events at the ballpark, such as jersey auctions
  • Schedule and coordinate ballpark tours.
  • Coordinate and activate community relations programs and events as needed
  • Assist with the planning and execution of non-traditional revenue and non-game day events as necessary
  • Be a positive brand ambassador and represent the Pelicans and our partners in a professional manner at all times.
  • All other duties assigned... like: taking the bat dog home, researching and learning the next viral dance, picking up VIPs from the airport, and tarp pulls (yay!).
  
By the end of the season you will:
  • Understand, in-depth, the various interworking of departments that comprise a front office of a sports team
  • Understand the culture of the Pelicans' front office and how it leads to our success on and off the field
  • Add additional elements to your professional portfolio
  • Have gained valuable networking opportunities
  • Have gained experience in managing both people and events
  • Receive potential job placement assistance based on performance 
 
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Interns are preferable of college senior status or employee eligible, meaning able to accept a full-time job upon completion of the internship. Other applicants will not be excluded 
  • A strong interest and desire to work in the sports industry.
  • A wide range of majors are encouraged to apply, but most of our applicants are a part of communications, recreation/ tourism, and sport management majors.
  • Interns should be able to perform physically demanding aspects of the job.
  • Interns must be willing to dedicate 40-100 hours per week to their internship, including all home games and ballpark events.
  • Interns must be able to start in mid-January.
  • A working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • A working knowledge of social media management tools (ex: Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc). 
  • Prior experience in Minor League Baseball (or a similar position) is preferred but not required.
 
Duration/Compensation
  • This is a seasonal position that will conclude in September.  Target start date is mid-January.
  • Monthly Stipend
