Player Operations: Baseball - Fielding Coach

The Florence Y’alls are a member of the Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league which is now a Partner League of the MLB. The Y’alls (previously the Freedom) began playing in Florence, Kentucky in 2005. The team rebranded in January of 2020 and received national attention.
The Y'alls analytics/player development department started in 2020, and it became the first department of its kind in independent professional baseball during the 2021 Frontier League season. The department, entering its third full season in 2023, is designed to help start careers in baseball, help develop players, and help the team win.

Player Evaluation Intern
  • Work to identify and keep track of potential amateur and professional players to acquire
  • Evaluate and analyze Y’alls players utilizing any data/metrics available
  • Put together written scouting reports for players currently in other college, independent and minor league organizations
  • Assist the front office and coaching staff in the player procurement process
  • Work to promote current Y’alls players and provide MLB organizations with individual player data
  • Work with the coaching staff to conduct ad hoc research regarding signings/transactions
  • Potential to work limited hours from January to the beginning of the baseball season
  • Willingness to watch video and travel locally for scouting assignments

Timeline: May - September (potential for remote work until season)
  
Game Planning/Advanced Scouting Intern
  • Prepare advanced scouting reports for use of players, coaches, etc.
  • Collect and analyze data from Y’alls and Frontier League games
  • Assist in the collection and distribution of video for scouting and player development purposes.
  • Conduct thorough research through video and data analysis to obtain relevant information regarding upcoming opponents.
  • Work to concisely present scouting findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Assist with coaching staff requests before, during, and after games.
  • Willingness to travel with the team

Timeline: May - September 

Analytics/Player Development Intern
  • Design personalized analytical reports for players that are presented in a professional and engaging way
  • Assist in the collection and distribution of video for scouting and player development purposes
  • Collect and analyze data from Y’alls and Frontier League games
  • Create visuals and analytical tools to aid in the development of the players
  • Assist coaching staff before, during, and after games
  • Work with coaching staff and analytics team on various new initiatives and projects
  • Perform ad hoc analytical and player development research as necessary
  • Willingness to travel with the team

Timeline: May - September 

Skills and Requirements:

  • Internship open to current college students and recent graduates
  • Previous experience in a baseball team environment preferred
  • An understanding of relevant baseball data and technologies such as Yakkertech, Trackman, Rapsodo, etc.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team environment
  • Passionate about baseball and interested in pursuing work in baseball operations, scouting, analytics, or player development
  • Ability to relocate to Florence, KY/ Greater Cincinnati Area for the duration of the season
