Player Operations: Any Sport - Coach
POSITION OVERVIEW: Work closely with the organization’s Player Development, Baseball Analytics and Sports Science departments, Minor League on-field coordinators and coaches to ensure information is optimally leveraged to advance the developmental goals of each player and staff member within the organization.  Continued Red Sox growth in evidence-based coaching, technical aptitude to understand and communicate analytical materials, and on-field baseball experience to improve long-term performance at multiple levels. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • In collaboration with Player Development and R&D leadership, seek out and research new and progressive means to improve the operation of the department, including but not limited to use of information, video and on-field operations.
  • Assist any present Coordinators, as well as the Manager, Hitting, Pitching, and Extra Coach with daily on-field practice and/or indoor training.
  • Aid in the implementation of new technology, both to collect information and improve our players’ on-field performance.
  • Manage daily operation, data collection, and practice objectives of technology at each affiliate (TrackMan, Rapsodo, Motion Capture, Blast Motion, and EdgerTronic Cameras).
  • Provide feedback on the operation and data quality of different technologies to the Baseball Analytics department, to ensure effective use of each device.
  • Work directly with players to aid their understanding of information provided and the purpose of the technology being used.
  • Assist Manager, Baseball Development and on-field coordinators and coaches with the integration of information from the Baseball Analytics and Sports Science departments. Ensure that on-field coordinators, coaches, Baseball Analytics, and Sports Science are aligned with their goals for every individual player.
  • Assist Director, Player Development and Manager, Baseball Development in the implementation of player plans and the documentation of efforts made to reach goals assigned within those player plans.
  • Collaborate consistently with Baseball Analytics to determine validated, data-driven mechanical, approach, and performance goals for individual position players as it relates to offense, defense and pitching.  Maintain said goals and monitor their progress.
  • Working with Manager, Baseball Development, being a resource to the affiliate staff in the interpretation and use of player evaluation materials produced by the Baseball Analytics, Sports Science, and Player Development departments.
  • Provide and effectively communicate daily, weekly, and periodic feedback reports to players, coaches, coordinators, and front office.
  • Perform important quality control functions related to both data recorded and information delivered to players and staff members.
  • Provide instruction and feedback to the affiliate interns, ideally giving them increased responsibility with some of the aforementioned on-field tasks as the season progresses
  • Additional duties or projects assigned by upper management (Directors, VP’s, etc).
TRAVEL:
  • Relocate to Fort Myers for minor league Spring Training and to a full-season affiliate location.
  • Representation at any events and meetings deemed appropriate by the Club. Additional travel as assigned by Director, Player Development.
