The Richmond Flying Squirrels Food & Beverage Intern will work in a unique, fun-filled environment with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience assisting department managers in all facets of daily operations in addition to learning about cost analysis, special event coordination and planning, scheduling, training and development of team members, menu development and cost controls, cash handling, culinary skill development for large-scale execution, menu design and various administrative duties within human resources. The ideal candidate must possess a strong work ethic with an interest in business management, hospitality and tourism management, sports marketing from a food aspect, special event management and/or general restaurant management and catering. Individuals who have successfully completed the Flying Squirrels internship program have graduated to full-time positions in all professional sports leagues including MiLB, MLB, MLS, NFL, NBA and NASCAR as well as college athletics.

  • Assist department managers with the hiring, supervising, training and scheduling of more than 100 game day employees
  • Assist with daily preparation and shut down processes 
  • Conduct daily stocking and inventory of concession stands 
  • Complete statistical food and labor analysis for reporting and planning purposes
  • Assist department managers with planning and preparing for non-game day and special events 
  • Other duties as assigned by department managers

  • Must be available full-time, in-person from January 16-September 27, 2024 
  • Willingness to work long hours including nights, weekends and holidays in addition to all 69 Flying Squirrels home games and select non-game day and special events
  • Must possess intermediate cash handling skills 
  • A team player who is willing to collaborate and work well with other departments within the organization 
  • Strong communication and superior customer service skills
  • Extremely organized and detail-oriented 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
