Overview:
The Assistant Sports Turf Manager can expect to work on all aspects of field care under the supervision of the Sports Turf Manager. The Assistant will be involved in all day-to-day maintenance of our Tifway 419 playing surface with DuraEdge Professional infield mix including pre-game field preparation, clay repair, fertilizing, spraying, aerating, topdressing, infield grooming, mowing, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in daily aspects of field operations
  • Dirt work includes infield skin, mounds, home plate, bullpens and warning track
  • Turf work including fertilizer and pesticide application, painting and edging
  • Cultural practices including mowing, aerification, topdressing, and irrigation
  • Basic equipment maintenance
  • Tarp handling and weather situations
  • Assist in field preparation and recovery for any extra or non-baseball related events
  • Assist the Stadium Operations department as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications:
  • One to two years of experience in sports turf management
  • Sports turf or other horticultural experience preferred
  • Strong desire to learn
  • Strong work ethic accompanied with passion, enthusiasm, focus, creativity, and professionalism
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
  • Work well under high pressure situations and handle stressful environments
  • Coordinate and handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Must be able to push, pull, and lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work long, unconventional hours during the baseball season
  • Availability for the entire 2020 MiLB season, beginning mid-March and ending in Mid‐ September, preferred.

Compensation & Duration:
  • Monthly Stipend
  • Seasonal Position - 2021
