Job Summary:  
The community impact manager, sport participation & growth, will oversee the development, implementation, and progression of youth baseball and softball programs for the Detroit Tigers. The primary focus will be toward planning, organizing, and implementing exceptional grassroots and community sport programming efforts in Detroit and across the state of Michigan.
Key Responsibilities / Skill Requirements: 
  • Manage the administration of youth baseball and softball programming for the Detroit Tigers while maintaining accountability for its design, operation, and evaluation.
  • Build upon current grassroots and community programming (e.g. Tiny Tigers; Play Baseball Detroit) to continue developing groundbreaking youth baseball and softball growth efforts for the Tigers with an emphasis on engaging underrepresented audiences.
  • Establish free and fee-based camps and clinics that provide a wide range of at-scale opportunities for children to experience baseball and softball in Detroit and across Michigan.
  • Develop and maintain active relationships with Major League Baseball, member clubs, and governing bodies.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and productive partnerships with a broad range of individuals, both within and outside the organization.
  • Work with the creative, marketing, and communications teams to effectively brand, market and communicate youth sport participation and growth activities and programming.
  • Actively participate and contribute to league, governing body, statewide and local meetings, and activities on sport-related topics.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with colleagues, baseball and softball facility managers, corporate partners, parents, program alumni and the local community regarding sport participation and growth programming.
  • Manage fundraising goals and strategies for youth baseball and softball growth efforts.
  • Manage the youth baseball and softball programming budget, including all purchase orders, invoices, and expense reports.
  • Represent the Tigers community impact group at Major League Baseball meetings and functions, as appropriate.
  • Be a positive presence in the community among individuals and corporations through participation in both internal and external events.
  • Support the collective community impact group as needed (outreach and engagement / fundraising and development).

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manages one full-time colleague and one part-time seasonal colleague.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. 
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training colleagues; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining colleagues; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in the fields of Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Recreational Management, or Sports Management preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the college and/or professional sport industry.
  • Evidence of solid communication skills through verbal, written and telephonic channels.
  • Experience directly managing full-time and part-time colleagues.
  • Ability to demonstrate computer proficiency.
  • Experience with LeagueApps, Word mail merge, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Advanced knowledge of baseball and/or softball.
  • Proven record of establishing excellence in athletic program development, including experience developing and executing youth camps, clinics, and experiences.
  • Ability to produce deadline-driven material with a high attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Strong emphasis on analytic, strategic, communications, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to foster collaboration and productive partnerships with a broad range of individuals, both within and outside the organization.
  •  A valid driver’s license.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working in professional baseball and/or softball.
  • Extensive experience in sport program development and event planning.
  • Ability to excel in a mastery-oriented environment.

Working Conditions:
  •  Irregular and extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Exposure to moderate - high noise level
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
  •  Frequent visual/auditory attention
  • Many events occur outdoors or in cold environments (e.g. baseball fields and ice rinks)
