About UBS Arena 
UBS Arena is the first third-generation arena in New York and will become the new home for the New York Islanders for the 2021-22 season. On the grounds of historic Belmont Park, UBS Arena is Made for Music and Built for Hockey; designed to deliver superior concert acoustics and unforgettable experiences for both music and hockey fans. UBS Arena will attract a roster of world-class artists and diverse music genres and expects to host more than 150 major events annually.
 
Position Summary  
 We are hiring a Manager, Operations.  The Manager of Operations reports directly to the Director of Operations.  The Manager of Operations is responsible for overseeing event related building operations and the utility/conversion team. The ideal candidate must have experience in creating and implementing policies and systems that meet UBS Arena standards. The goal is to ensure we become and remain the industry standard for operational excellence, while ensuring all guests and staff exceptional experiences.  
 
While you are here you will:
  • Play a key role in the preparation and planning for the opening of the new UBS Arena in the fall of 2021. 
  • Coordinate back of house event related operations, including planning and execution of a wide variety of sports and entertainment events. 
  • Work with the Event Services Department to ensure that each event’s building needs are met and staffed within budget. 
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, and managing the utility/conversion team members. 
  • Manage facility and event conversions for hockey, concerts, basketball, and family shows, to ensure event setups are safe, correct, and completed on-time and within budget. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external clients with regards to event and non-event sponsorship activations.  
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve operational problems, complaints, and emergency repairs in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Assist with the implementation of a new Time and Attendance scheduling and tracking system to improve operating efficiencies. 
  • Develop and manage BOH staff performance criteria, oversee department hiring process, scheduling and payroll as required. 
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all BOH employees, including the development of a comprehensive workplace safety program, following all OSHA and local safety regulations. 
  • Assist all internal departments, vendors, and clients as assigned. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal Arena Operations staff as well as event-related and promoter personnel.   
 
What you need to be qualified:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related sports and entertainment field. 
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience relating to facility operations and arena conversions, in an arena or stadium; preferably with a union environment. 
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive supervisory management experience, preferably in a union environment. 
  • Extensive experience in arena or stadium event production, setup, and conversions; to include NHL hockey, basketball, concerts, family shows, and a variety corporate functions. 
  • Extensive knowledge of large retractable seating systems, including structural components and motor operations. 
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement immediate corrective action.  
  • Highly organized with excellent project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a high-pressure environment. 
  • Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state, and local laws and regulations. 
  • Ability to lead, give clear and concise direction, and provide feedback to staff. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
