Position Summary:
The Facilities Division of OVG360 has an exciting opening for a HVAC Facility Engineer on the campus of Arizona State University for the new 5,000 seat multi-purpose arena and community ice rink. The new arena is scheduled to open in fall 2022 and will be home to ASU Sun Devil Men’s Ice Hockey, ASU Wrestling and Women’s Gymnastics programs, an NHL franchise, as well as variety of events, including concerts, family shows, comedy and other live events. The new community ice rink will serve as a public venue to the community and will host hockey and skating programming, youth competitions, educational opportunities and more. 
The position reports directly to the Chief Engineer and will manage and maintain the facility systems. This individual will operate, maintain and repair all equipment used for heating, ventilation and air 
conditioning of the complex equipment. This includes operations of the heating system utilizing hot water for tempering or heating building, the chilled water system to provide cooling to the complex and the Cimco Ice plant that is used for the ice surfaces in both facilities. The individual will also routinely check and repair electrical, plumbing, ventilation, refrigeration, and other building systems within the facility. This individual will interact with guests at times and requires the ability to communicate and engage with the public with a focus on delivering a world class guest experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   
  • Assist Chief Engineer with the overall daily operation and maintenance of all facility systems. This includes HVAC/BMS, sound, lighting, fire protection, life safety, CMMS, workplace safety, communications, scoreboard, ice making, etc.
  • Identify maintenance risks on HVAC equipment.
  • Learn and understand locations of all HVAC equipment and how they relate to the complex.
  • Manage preventative maintenance schedules, and maintain and repair all HVAC equipment and components to manufactures recommendation, i.e. valves, motors, belts, bearings, filters, and lubrication etc.
  • Routinely check all equipment rooms; identify and repair any issues and keep rooms clean.
  • Respond to fire alarms systems and be familiar with fire panels.
  • Work with other operational departments to evaluate needs for all work requests—both scheduled and unscheduled—as well as any special projects that arise.
  • Coordinate and follow up on preventative maintenance on refrigeration units, plumbing, electrical, overhead doors, and any other mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate and assist in repairs involving electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems, sports event equipment and other equipment needed to produce events.
  • Coordinate and oversee with 3rd party vendors on warranty and service contracts.
  • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of service agreements for the facility systems as needed. 
  • Read blueprints and plan projects to complete assigned tasks, and coordinate and follow up on incidental carpentry, masonry, and painting and plaster work.
  • Review and maintain maintenance logs and maintenance budgets and complete all documentation necessary to the completion of a task.
  • Responsible for Health & Safety compliance.
  • Make immediate decisions and communicate with all users of the facility in an emergency.
  • Comply with established OSHA procedures.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

  • Experience in facility HVAC engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the field, Sports/Entertainment/Hospitality venues preferred
  • HS diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s/Technical degree from an accredited college/university/school preferred)
  • Universal HVAC certification preferred (can be acquired through maintenance programs and schooling)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required
  • Must be a self-starter, proactive, flexible, and deadline-focused
  • Forklift certified or ability to be certified
  • Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Understanding of advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating.
  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers, refrigeration, air handlers, water treatment
  • Knowledge of Fire Alarm / Fire Protection systems
  • Knowledge of Security / Hold up Alarm systems  
Nonessential Job Functions:  
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Experience in an arena, stadium, convention center or other multi-purpose public assembly facility preferred
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid CPR certificate
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office software
  • Operate standard office equipment including printer, copier, computer and fax machine.
  • Written/Oral communications - ability to speak and write clearly and concisely, get messages across that have the desired effect

Working Conditions:  
  • Minimal Travel (<10% of work time) may be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
