About Coachella Valley Firebirds and Acrisure Arena:
On January 25, 2020, the AHL granted the 32nd AHL franchise to Oak View Group (OVG). As the newest addition to the Pacific Division in the Western Conference, this team continues to prepare for its first puck drop in the 22-23 AHL season. In addition to the development of a new state of the art facility (Acrisure Arena) OVG is consecutively building their front office headquarters and training facility adjacent to the Arena, with one NHL regulation rink. This development represents not only further investment in making Coachella Valley the epicenter of Southern California but establishing a new skating presence within the region for the first time. 

America’s hottest music festival destination is finally getting the world-class arena it deserves.  Opening in the Fall of 2022, the Acrisure Arena will provide the greater Palm Springs area of Southern California with a premiere 11,500+ seat venue to host the biggest artists and acts on the planet. Designed specifically for hockey and concerts, the new arena will provide top-tier hospitality, artist amenities, and all of the benefits of a modern music and sports venue.  In addition, the facility will serve as the new home of the American Hockey League affiliate of the Seattle Kraken.

Position Summary:
The Director of Iceplex Operations & Programming will be responsible for supervising overall management and day-to-day functions for the adjoining ice rink that will serve as a year-round gathering space and training center for the Firebirds.  This position will be assisting in the development of strategy and execution of all programming for the community rink. This will include all facility centric programs; including youth leagues, adult hockey, learn-to-skate and learn-to-play hockey programs, figure skating as well as corporate and community events. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the overall leadership, support and direction of the staff, vendors and contractors focusing on event execution and development of the venue brand and culture.
  • Works directly with facility operations to ensure proper maintenance and repair of the rink and performance systems.
  • Working with the venue partners, this role will be responsible for event booking and calendar management.
  • Develops a collaborative and positive talent relations culture by maintaining a deep understanding of ice maintenance and programming. Provides an environment in which guest have positive experiences in the venue.
  • Reviews all contracts for profitability and feasibility and ensures that all events are executed to OVG standards.
  • Responsible preparing budgets in conjunction with finance, operations and hospitality executive leadership.
  • Responsible for the proper execution of all events, to OVG standards.
  • Drives the support of a positive employee culture, effective execution of duties.
  • Drives strong communication across all departments and third party contractors to achieve goals and objectives.
  • In collaboration with the Community Relations department, develops local relationships that will further the interests of the company and venue.
  • Works directly with the Guest Experiences department to create an environment that portrays cumulative image of the venue, it’s partners and clients.
  • Responsible preparing budgets in conjunction with finance, operations and hospitality executive leadership.
  • Works with finance departments and third party vendors to develop long and short-term revenue growth and cost control measures.
  • Develops new revenue streams including programming, F&B promotions, talent, and retail.
  • Work in conjunction with Senior Director of Operations to maintain all physical aspects of a building from the structure to heating and cooling equipment, ice plant, fire systems, tools, ice equipment, plumbing and electrical infrastructures.
  • Oversee youth, adult, clinic, tournament, open-skate, and other programming.
  • Support facility goals and priorities relating to financial management, budget, accounting, purchasing, and/or payroll in compliance with State and Federal law, and policies and procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with Senior Director of Operations to install, maintain, and removal of NHL quality ice surface.
  • Maintaining overall facility and grounds cleanliness.
  • Assist in safety coordination for facility.
  • Drive collaboration across respective programs and operations to drive efficiency, synergies and optimize for guest experience. 
  • Create policies and standard operating procedures for the facility.
  • Continuously evaluating how the facility can be more sustainable.
  • 7- 10 years working in a similar facility.
  • Strong experience in event marketing, management, corporate hospitality, community programming and sport-related logistics.
  • Experience installing, maintaining and removal of an NHL quality ice surface.
  • Must be adaptable with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an expert ability to present and communicate new ideas and concepts.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high degree of personal integrity and consistently put the interests of the organization first.
  • Must be a fierce communicator and cross-organizational collaborator.
  • Experience with youth sports at the recreational and elite level.
  • Understanding of event and on-ice programming.
  • Delivery of top-line revenue and execution of a business plan.

Working Conditions:
Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required
Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
