Marketing: Sales & Marketing Management
SUMMARY: To manage, supervise and coordinate the activities and operations of the Sales and Marketing Department; to schedule and book venue events; and to provide highly responsible staff assistance to higher-level management staff.
-Assume management responsibility for all services and activities of the Sales and Marketing Department including the scheduling and booking of all venue events; and the signage/sponsorship opportunities within the UVCC including vendor packages, sales materials, proposals, sales calls and contracts.
-Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of all Sales and Marketing programs and activities.
-Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the General Manager; implement improvements.
-Select, train, motivate and evaluate all sales and marketing personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
-Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for providing marketing, booking and sales services; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
-Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; direct the monitoring of and approve expenditures; direct and implement adjustments as necessary.
-Maintain weekly revenue reporting for current and future years; identify areas of strengths and weaknesses, and potential shortfalls.
-Prepare written proposals; reevaluate potential business value of various events and clients; initiate contractual arrangement; finalize all booking arrangement; prepare contracts; negotiate rental and other rates as required.
-Maintain a large account base, regular contact and follow up with clients as well as prospecting, cold calling, and performing sales blitz.
-Meet facility goals as well as departmental revenue goals.
-Work with internal departments on the planning of future events.
-Conduct tours of venue for potential licensees; answer questions and provide information regarding venue capabilities.
-Direct and plan promotional projects and coordinate focused marketing programs; develop strategies for new markets and clients.
-Oversee the development of all venue advertising and marketing plans and materials; analyze venue rental rates, schedules, and labor rates and modify as necessary.
-Oversee ongoing website maintenance, updates and content, as well as social media postings, and online advertising.
-Manage and maintain departmental budget, purchase orders, and invoices.
-Participate on corporate sales and marketing calls.
-Participate on a variety of committees; attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of sales and marketing.
-Plan and organize venue events efficiently.
-Actively participate in community functions, events, and meetings.
-Oversee the scheduling and booking of all venue events; serve as a liaison with outside event organizers as well as other departments; negotiate and resolve significant and controversial issues.
-Provide responsible staff assistance to the General Manager as necessary; prepare and present staff reports and other related correspondence.
-Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints.
Interpret and apply administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
-Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work.
-Work in conjunction with Utah Valley Convention & Visitor’s bureau as well as hotel partners.
-Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
-Assist General Manager as needed
-Four years of increasingly responsible sales and marketing experience for a convention center, hotel or other event venue including some supervisory responsibility.
-A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course works in Marketing, business administration, or a related field.

-Operational characteristics, services and activities of venue sales and marketing program.
-Understand the organization and operation of the convention center and of the outside agencies as necessary to assume assigned responsibilities
-Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
-Modern and complex principles and practices of event scheduling and booking operations.
-Principles and practices of accounting
-Principles and practices of budget preparation and control.
-Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
-Principles of crowd management.
-Client needs as they apply to venue usage.
-Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws codes and regulations.
-Knowledge of Microsoft office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
-Knowledge of Adobe software packages, Photoshop, Indesign, Spark, is a plus.
