National Director of Sponsorship Sales - Northeast - Six Flags (New York City, NY)

Job Description:

Six Flags is seeking a results driven entrepreneurial rock star to create, package and sell solution-based Outdoor Digital, Experiential, and Event platforms across the Northeast.

What we are looking for:

This candidate should be a self-motivator who thrives on a high energy environment, embraces teamwork and has a passion for the creative selling of the Six Flags’ portfolio inclusive of media, sponsorship and promotional assets. This candidate will be charged with meeting and exceeding revenue through the selling of 360 degree programs to key National advertisers and agencies based in the Northeast.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop new business across the Northeast region for integrated partnerships while delivering on sales expectations. 
  • Craft sales presentations that creatively utilize Six Flags assets to meet the goals of prospective clients.
  • Educate the Northeast marketplace on the various facets of Six Flags Media Network assets and its marketing capabilities.
  • Manage the overall client relationship through the sales process, contracting, invoicing to the overall execution of the program. 
  • Work closely with the Six Flags activation and execution team on exceptional fulfillment of all partnerships.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of aggressive experience in sponsorship/media sales
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Advertising or related field

Functional experience and/or knowledge should include:

  • Specific advertising sales and marketing insight and expertise
  • Experience in sales, development and execution of fully integrated marketing programs

Critical Skills:

  • Cognizant of current advertising trends across all medium and categories
  • Able to identify and exploit emerging trends and technologies
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently
  • A team player who understands the importance of both individual and team performance
  • Strong sales and project management abilities; capable of prioritizing and handling multiple clients simultaneously, under tight time constraints.
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications; MSFT PowerPoint a must.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.

Larry Scott

CEO WTA - now Commissioner Pac-12

Larry Scott was a former professional player on the men's tour, even became a member of the ATP Tour's board of directors, and served on the board of the men's professional tennis players association. He eventually rose to a position of Chief Operating Officer. The men and women are always competing against each other for money, television, sponsors and publicity.

When the Women's Tennis Association conducted their new search for a CEO, Larry made the short list. After his interview, the search committee advised him that he did such a good job he may be considered a leading candidate. But before presenting him to their board, they needed to "check him out." It's at that time, the COO of the ATP Tour demonstrated his ability to build consensus.

Larry went straight to people he thought might have an issue with his candidacy for the position. He flew here; he flew there. He had meetings in the U.S., in Europe - wherever his detractors were, he went to visit them. This surprised many on the search committee. But Larry was demonstrating, perhaps not only to the search committee, but also to himself, whether he could draw together diverging views and have them follow his lead. And that he did. On March 31, 2003, Larry Scott was named by the board of directors of the Women's Tennis Association the new Chair and CEO.

Tips for applying for jobs on Teamwork Online Job Boards

HOW TO PUT YOUR RESUME ON THE JOB BOARD.    In order to be notified of positions that might fit your background, press the "Apply for Future Notification Only".  Fill out the complete application and you will not have to fill in the details when you do apply for a job.  Make sure you fill in the notification boxes on the left-side of the skills page of the application.  Once you receive an email for a job that interests you, apply for the position and login using the same email address and password you used when you created your account and apply for the job.

BE LOCAL, IF YOU ARE. Employers prefer hiring local candidates for most positions, particularly lower level positions. If you are applying for internships or entry level positions and you have available housing in a market, list a local address as a contact. (Don't apply to different jobs or different boards, as the last address you put on your TeamWork Online account is the one seen by all the employer(s) with whom you've applied.)

MY ACCOUNT. You can see all of your applications on, update your cover letters and update each part of your application. You can also see when you applied and whether the job is still open or has gone off-line. Allow the employer 30 more days after it is off-line before you give up hope from hearing from them. Check your inbox there too for any correspondence from the employers. Lastly, add Teammates to your profile. They show up as "references" on your application.

TAILOR YOUR COVER LETTER. Make sure you tailor it specifically to the job to which you are applying. Sell yourself! Check your grammar, etc. before you submit it.

CHECK YOUR APPLICATION. After you have completed your application, go to "edit your information" to make sure it is correct.

ATTACH YOUR RESUME. On the last screen of the application is a place to download your resume. Please make sure you have it on your computer before applying, or go back and attach it to your record by going through "edit your information.

INTERNATIONAL CANDIDATES. If you are a candidate living overseas and are a U.S. citizen or an international candidate and have a green card, make sure you mention that in your cover letter and have a US address listed.

CHANGING CAREERS? If you are changing careers, please try to have either advanced education in sports management or volunteer experience in sports to support your interest in working in sports and place that in the Business Experience section of the application.

JOBS AVAILABLE WHEN SEASON ENDS.  Most team jobs are available when the season is just ending rather than right before the season starts.

KEEPING RECORDS UP-TO-DATE. In order to be notified of positions, it is important to keep your resume and email address current. Make sure you ADD additional information on your record every six months, or when you receive an email advising you that we are "cleaning" the databases, make an addition to the record so you can continue to receive email notifications.
