Operations Intern - OHL Classic at Mayakoba (Playa del Carmen, QR)

OHL Classic at Mayakoba Overview:

The OHL Classic at Mayakoba was founded in 2007 and made golf history when it became the first official PGA TOUR event staged outside the United States or Canada. The Mayakoba resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, annually receives 132 professional golfers competing in a four-round competition for a prize purse of US$7.1 million. Televised internationally to more than 200 countries and territories around the world, the OHL Classic at Mayakoba puts Mexico’s Riviera Maya and Cancun regions in front of millions of golf enthusiasts and has an enormous economic impact on the region.

Summary:

The tournament is seeking an Operations Intern who will collaborate on all operational and logistical elements of a professional golf tournament at the PGA TOUR FedExCup level in Mexico. A variety of projects will be assigned to the operations intern including golf cart management, supervision of shipping and receiving, supervision of signage installation, etc. This is a one-month temporary position, beginning in Mid-October 2017 and concluding in December 2017 (Exact dates to be determined).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Manager of Tournament Operations and Operations Coordinator in all operational aspects of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
  • Manage the execution of a variety of operational projects such as signage installation, trash removal, temporary workers, etc.
  • Assist with golf cart operations; including nightly charging and organization of the fleet.
  • Assist with event´s storage areas, including shipping, receiving and safe keeping of merchandise and equipment.
  • Management and upkeep tournament headquarters, maintain order and help keep office tidy and clean.
  • Help oversee volunteer operations during tournament week.
  • Assist with other tournament projects and duties as deemed appropriate and necessary.

Requirements:

  • 100% fluency in both Spanish and English is REQUIRED; verbal and written.
  • Completed university degree or working towards completion in Business, Marketing, Event/Sports Management, etc.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Highly effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Willing to work long hours and extended periods without a day off in a fast-paced, stressful environment.
  • Ability to work in an intimate team atmosphere; maintaining a positive attitude under pressure and on deadlines.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical tasks such as moving heavy items, installation and maintenance tasks, etc.
  • Excellent organizational, time and project management skills. Individual must be extremely detail-oriented.
  • Interest and knowledge of Golf, experience with golf tournaments or sporting events is a plus.

Tournament Intern - TOUR Championship - PGA TOUR (Atlanta, GA)

POSITION:

Tournament Services Assistant, Event Management Internship

LOCATION:

Atlanta, GA

DATES & HOURS:

June, 2017 – September 29, 2017

  • Applicant must be willing to work long hours prior to and during the tournament (event dates are September 20 - 24) 
  • June - August: 30 – 40 hour weeks
  • September: 40 – 80 hour weeks

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Tournament Services Manager to coordinate all aspects of managing a golf tournament
  • Volunteer Administration: assist with the management of the entire volunteer process; Includes: application process, data entry, communication with volunteers and chairmen, volunteer package preparation, headquarters management, etc.  
  • Management of volunteer database system
  • Assist Tournament Services Manager with organizing Media Day, Am-Am, volunteer party and other smaller events/meetings
  • Responsible for inventory of tournament apparel, prizes, etc.
  • Update materials related to corporate hospitality, players, volunteers, etc.
  • Assist with general administrative work (ie answering phones, purchasing, billing, etc.) 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: Minimum 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) with a major in Sports Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or another related field.

Experience: Prior sporting event experience preferred

Skill Set Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills are crucial
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive in accomplishing tasks
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at once and work well under pressure
  • Manage time efficiently
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as individually
  • Some medium lifting and labor is required

Computer Skills:

  • Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
