Dear Buffy,
I am a degreed marketing professional with work experience with two large corporations and want to make a career switch to the sports industry. I have experience in brand management, future product marketing, regional marketing and Finance. What is the best way for me to transition to the sports industry? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,Dear In-Transition,
Making any career switch from one industry to another is difficult, and during these times it may become even more important. Based upon your note, it seems that you have spent a lot more time in marketing than finance, so I would focus on the brand management piece of your background. Although sports teams don't really have the true brand management function - as their product somewhat changes daily - there are marketing positions within corporations who sponsor sports needing good brand managers. There are agencies servicing those same corporations needing good brand managers. And sometimes leagues need strong brand managers. I would focus on those avenues with your skill.
- Buffy
