Summary

Reporting to the Director of Media and Content, the Media and Content intern will assist in writing daily and feature content for Sabres.com, Bandits.com, and all digital media and marketing objectives as needed. The Media and Content intern is part of a support staff for all digital-related activities within the company, and will have a focus on writing/reporting but will help with various needs throughout the digital space.

This is a part-time, temporary role that will encompass the 2024-25 season (approximately August 2024 – May 2025).

This position requires various day, night, and weekend hours, including some game day responsibilities.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in producing short- and long-form written content for Sabres.com including game and practice coverage.
  • Primary producer of short- and long-form written content for Bandits.com including game and practice coverage.
  • Coverage of all Bandits games and press conferences.
  • Provide coverage for community and partnership events.
  • Assist in operating the club’s content management system by posting content (articles, videos, photos, etc.), editing graphics for the team’s digital properties and performing general maintenance on the team’s digital properties.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure digital platforms meet objectives.
  • Stay up to date on current trends and best practices.
  • Consistently review the content and services being provided on and provide recommendations that would support our mission.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications for the Position:

  • Ability to write and create engaging news articles and feature stories across digital properties.
  • Journalism background with a demonstrated ability to write on deadline.
  • Familiarity with content management systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of hockey and the NHL as well as lacrosse and the NLL.
  • Experience working in sports is preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Ability to travel to Canada.
  • Knowledge or interest in mobile and digital trends.
  • Ability to read and react quickly to situations and prioritize.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization skills.
  • Versatility and dependability are paramount.
  • Motivated team player.
  • Ability to work long, flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position may require the individual to have access to confidential records and information. To successfully perform this position, confidentiality of the information with which the individual has contact must be maintained.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving boxes etc.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
  • Ability to work in a moderate to loud environment

 

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS: Must submit a writing sample and, if a final applicant, sit for a supervised and timed writing test.

Compensation:  This role pays $15.00 an hour
